Hume School Free Practice Sessions--The Westcoast Swing can be danced to a variety of music--slow blues, rock, etc. The basic step is a six-count pattern. The six-count patterns include the sugar-push, lady's underarm turn, lady's walk-by, etc. Other patterns (taught in beginners' classes) are on an eight-count and these include all of what are called the whips. At the Hume practice sessions, Russ Yeske, Flavia Elias and Hans Elias are more than willing to teach the basics. The more advance dancers work with video lessons by Robert Royston and Michael Kiem. Music is almost always playing while dancers explore techniques, both by watching videos and receiving tips from various mentors. There is usually a shortage of men, so IF YOU'RE A SINGLE MALE, COME ON DOWN! There are numerous weekend workshops in Kelowna and a number of people from Nelson may be trying to make the journeys. To see a list of Kelowna workshops go to http://www.tangokelowna.com/ . YouTube Links--Click on any one of them and have fun watching!
